Tips on Having a Stress-Free Experience when Travelling with Toddlers

Travelling with small kids can have its challenges. There’s so much to think about. Do you have the right sunscreen? Will they behave on the plane? There are so many variables to take into consideration. As such, we have put a list of tips as to how you can have a stress-free experience when travelling with kids.  Hopefully you can arrive at your hotel when you get there as fresh as a daisy!

Pack plenty of snacks

Kids tend to get more grumpy than usual when they are hungry or peckish – so it’s a good idea to make sure you have plenty of snacks for them to eat on your journey.  Pack some healthy fruit for them and maybe their favourite treat too in case it is needed.  Hydration is incredibly important too, particularly if you are travelling to somewhere that is hot – so ensure that you have lots of water handy.  It’s probably not the best idea to have too many sugary snacks before you go on a plane – you might not enjoy the sugar high in a confined space!  If you don’t remember to pack anything, you should find lots of shops in the airport where you would be able to pick something up.

Plan for the sunshine

It can take kids a while to get used to the heat when they are abroad especially if it’s their first holiday.  Don’t wait until you arrive at your destination to get your child ready for the sunshine.  The most important part of this is getting the sun block that best suits your child.  Obviously, you should be opting to go for a high factor for the best protection.  There are other factors to take into consideration, so it might be the best idea to speak to your pharmacist for the best possible advice.  As well as this, sun hats are critical.  You should have sun hats for when you are out and about at the beach or taking a stroll outside.  You should also have a sun hat that is specific to going in the pool too, so they are always protected – even in the water.  Sunglasses to protect their eyes is also vital.  When you do arrive, make sure that they are getting plenty of shade, so they aren’t out in the sun for too long.

Book transfers in advance

What you don’t want is to have lots of hassle when travelling to the airport, especially if it is incredibly early in the morning or late in the evening and you are already tired.  Driving to the airport is usually the best way to go – and it means everything is in your full control.  You can pack the car up and get the kids ready as you please.  You also don’t want any stresses when you arrive at the airport, which is why it’s always a good idea to book parking in advance when you can.  There are official Birmingham airport parking options that make life easy for you.  Birmingham airport parking NCP allows you to sort your parking out in a couple of minutes – and you don’t need to worry about a thing.  You can book every thing at https://www.birminghamparking.com/parking/official and rest assured that your car will be safe and secure and monitored by CCTV.  You also want to make sure that there is transport available when you arrive at your destination.  If you are going somewhere hot and sunny, waiting around for ages with children is never a good idea.  If you don’t get transfers as part of your holiday package, then make sure you schedule it in yourself, so you have a clear plan in place when you arrive.

Make sure there is plenty of entertainment for the flight

The last thing you want is an irritable child on the flight. If that happens, it will end up feeling like the longest journey of your life. Ensure that you have a movie downloaded, or perhaps a few episodes of their favourite shows for security. You may be trying to limit screen time – but it definitely can be forgiven on a plane journey.  You also might want to bring a favourite cuddly toy that they can snuggle into on the journey, or even a puzzle to keep them entertained. There are also some great educational games you can get for tablets these days, or you could even download some nursery rhymes – and get a set of kid’s headphones. It might be a good idea to avoid anything too noisy that would annoy fellow passengers!

If you are planning a holiday with a toddler and already feeling the stress, then hopefully these handy tips will help you on your way.
