The Advantages of Quartz in the Kitchen

This is a partnered post.

Quartz is a beautiful material, but that’s not the only reason you should consider ordering  a set of quartz kitchen worktops. We’re going to address some of the advantages of quartz worktops in the typical home relative to the alternatives.

It Is the More Hygienic Choice

Quartz kitchen countertops are one the most hygienic surfaces you can install in your kitchen. They’re non-porous, so they won’t absorb grease and spilled juice. Other countertop materials absorbing liquids can stain them, if they’re not cleaned up promptly. That can even cause warping of the surface if you have wood countertops. With stone countertops, it will simply discolor the surface.  This can’t happen with a quartz worktop if you clean it up promptly.

It Is Much Easier to Clean

Quartz countertops are naturally non-porous. This means they don’t absorb liquids that stain and warp other countertops. You can clean it with a damp cloth and gentle detergent.

A side benefit of non-porous quartz counters is that you don’t have to use toxic materials to remove such stains or clean the counters themselves. You can use gentle soaps to clean quartz countertops.

It Can Come in Almost Any Colour

Quartz comes in a wide range of colours and finishes. Note that the exact colours and patterns depend on the supplier and their sources. CRL Quartz offers high end quartz kitchen countertops in more than 40 different colors and styles. They do not sell directly to the end customer but via distributors and fabricators.

It is Low Maintenance

We’ve already mentioned how quartz worktops don’t absorb stains or need fancy cleaning solutions. Only use a non-acidic cleaner or mild soap. If you choose a more honed finish, you’ll need to clean it more often to remove fingerprints and grease. If food stain does harden on the surface, you can remove it with a putty remover or gently scrape it away with a blade. Then clean the area with mild soap, though you can use a specialized stone cleaner. At least you don’t always have to use the specialized stone cleaner. If something like nail polish remover, bleach or inks comes into contact with the quartz countertop, you should clean it up immediately and then rinse the area with water.

Another point in their favour is the fact that you don’t have to re-seal quartz countertops the way you do stone worktops. These need to be sealed periodically in order to prevent them from staining. Applying the sealer is a messy process that can take several hours. And then you can’t use the countertops for up to two days. Furthermore, if you don’t use the right type of sealer or don’t apply it correctly, unattended spills can still seep into the sealed granite. Wait too long between sealant applications, and the same thing can happen.

It Is Durable

Quartz countertops are as durable as marble, granite and other stone worktops. They’re stain resistant and scratch resistant. This has the side benefit of making them more hygienic, since you won’t end up with gouges in the surface that can capture liquids or crumbs. Quartz worktops are hard to chip, too, though you shouldn’t use a knife or screwdriver on the surface. However, it is fairly common to use a cutting board to minimize the amount of cleanup you have to do after cutting vegetables anyway.

Another point in favor of quartz work surfaces is that it can tolerate somewhat high temperatures for a brief period. This doesn’t mean you can put a hot skillet directly on the quartz countertop without any sort of protection. You should use a hot pad or trivet instead. However, the quartz isn’t going to burn or get discolored the way a wood countertop would.

It Is a Popular Choice in Modern Homes

We’re seeing a definite trend toward natural materials in the modern home. This takes the form of wood and bamboo floors over linoleum flooring and nylon carpets. It also takes the form of stone floors and countertops making a comeback. This makes quartz worktops a perfect choice for your new home or planned kitchen remodel.
