4 Ways to get your home ready for Spring

This is  a collaborative post.

The evenings are definitely getting longer and the mornings are lighter. It can only mean that spring is just around the corner, and for many of us that makes us want to take on a few projects around the home. We all know how busy those DIY shops are over Easter, we all want to brighten things up as we come out of our winter hibernation. So here are 4 ways to get your home ready for spring.

Get those odd jobs done

If you are a householder the chances are high that you have a mental list of odd jobs that you need to complete around your home. We all have them, and we keep meaning to get round to them… one day. Make today that day and draw a list up of everything that you need to do.  This could be anything from replacing a leaky tap to repairing some guttering, and there is likely to be a mixture of jobs that you can do yourself and those that you need to hire someone to do.

Then you can start assigning tasks and making calls to book in any tradespeople that you need. Prioritise those things that you feel will make the biggest difference and book time out in your diary to complete any work that falls on you to get done.

Smarten up your garden

As the longer days and warmer weather approach, many of us will be wanting to spend time outside. This makes this month a good time to smarten up your garden.  You can start by giving it a general tidy up, raking up leaves, replacing any broken fence panels and throwing away anything that hasn’t come through the winter.

You can then freshen up fencing, decking and raised beds using products such as Sadolin Superdec and give the lawn a mow.  Any shrubs should now be safe from frosts so you can cut back and deadhead all plants, readying them for spring growth.

Freshen up a room

It can be fun to take on a new interiors project and with a new season on the way, now is a good time to freshen up a room.  Choose a room in your home that you feel is in need of a lift or that you spend the most time in and think about what you could do differently in there.

You could fully decorate it, with new flooring, decor, lighting and furniture or you could make small changes that have a big impact. You could add a feature fireplace, you could buy new accessories to add a new accent colour to the room, you could create a photo gallery or you could simply move the furniture around.

Treat yourself

With all of the hard work complete, it must be time to treat yourself.  Get yourself a new spring scented candle for the living room, buy yourself a bunch of daffodils to brighten the kitchen or pick up some spring decor inspiration in the latest interiors magazine.
