Interiors: 4 Impactful Ways to Improve your Kitchen

Most people often have their next home project at the back of their mind, even if they’re not planning on undertaking it imminently, I know I do!  Either your family has grown and suddenly your living space seems smaller or you are simply want to refresh the look of a room.

Kitchen remodelling can seem like a pretty daunting project but as it is the hub of your family’s home, it can also have one of the biggest impacts. Not only is a kitchen used to prepare meals, but also spending time as a family doing homework, playing games or as a space to entertain guests. But, they can also be the most tricky room-makeovers to complete. Here are some ideas

Pick a colour scheme

Pick a colour scheme and then plan the rest of your kitchen around it, including kitchen wall tiles, paint colours and flooring too. Even if you’re not planning a full re-model and hoping to do a lot of the work yourself, visiting a kitchen showroom will be a great way to see which colour schemes work well together, and to get an idea of the current trends and styles.

Change your cabinet doors

Dated doors and knobs? You don’t necessarily need to replace all your cupboards, you can just switch the knobs and handles around, which can change the look of your kitchen so easily and quickly. Painting cupboard and drawer fronts is a (fairly!) quick and easy way to completely change the look of your kitchen, especially if your current doors are a wooden style or colour – painting them a fresh cream or white will make a big difference.

Express your style with tiles

Replacing outdated and damaged tiles will make an instant difference to your kitchen. Shaped tiles, like this selection of hexagonal tiles would be a real talking point, you could combine different colours in a random, or more uniform pattern depending on the look you want. Tiling your kitchen floor could be another really impactful way to update your kitchen, if you’re going for a subtle or plain colour scheme then going for a terrazzo style tiled floor would be pretty cool I reckon!

Think about Lighting

Could you add lights above the worktops? Or even below the cupboards to give a soft glow when the main light is off? Even changing an old style strip light for adjustable spotlights in a brushed chrome would make the world of difference to any kitchen. If you’ve got a kitchen-diner than having adjustable lighting would be a huge bonus, so that you can lower the lights for a relaxing dinner environment, rather than having the lights up full like you do when you’re cooking!

The added bonus to doing any home renovations is that if you do come around to selling your house, it adds value too which makes it seem even more worth it. The kitchen is often one of the first rooms a buyer looks at before considering the sale, so it’s worth making it look good.
