Tips for DIY during lockdown

One of the things that has been brightening up my days during lockdown is getting all the home renovation projects I’ve wanted to get done for months (or perhaps years) ticked off my list. No more saying I’ll do that tomorrow or whenever the kids go on holiday with their grandparents, it’s time to do it now.

If you are finally ready to tackle some DIY tasks around your home and you are not so sure where to start, I’ve put together some easy DIY projects that you can get done quickly and swiftly.

  1. Start outside.

Go outside, look at your house. What do you see? Are you happy with the way the outside of your home looks or is the grubby, rusty and old hardware on your front door grabbing your attention? Ironmongery Experts UK believe that upgrading your entrance door’s ironmongery will improve your home’s kerb appeal while increasing the security of your front door – a win, win situation.

Their front door makeover article explains how replacing old front door hardware significantly changes the look of your home plus, they highlight some of their best-selling and most popular front door products, which I love. Call me nosy, but I like knowing what other people are buying, ok?

Whilst you are outside, give your front patio a bit of love as well. Mow the lawn, remove those awful weeds from your patio slabs and plant some flowers to add some colour to your outdoor area.

  1. Come on in.

Once you’ve finished outside, it’s time to take your hard work inside – hallway, kitchen, living room, bathroom, bedrooms, no room shall be left unattended. Go through your home and see what needs to be done. Whether you have some yellow walls that used to be white or some kitchen cabinets that are not closing right, write down the things you’d like changed and give them a go.

This article on Deep In Mummy Matters mentions that now it’s the perfect time to change your door handles. Not only do we use door handles everyday but they also play a big role in the overall décor of your home, so it’s important to choose the perfect door handles.

If you are looking for something even easier, something that your kids could also help with, why not paint anything and everything as Rice Cakes and Raisins recommends in this article. “From painting kitchen cabinets to painting the stairs to painting your living room or perhaps your garden shed.” A new coat of paint will fresh up any interior, hardware or piece of furniture, so grab your brush and paint away.
