The seasons are changing once again and it’s now time for some earthy colours and textures. Autumn and Winter are great seasons to play with different textures that are both functional and practical to wear in the rain and hail, maybe even snow. The contrasting styles of this season give us a lot of freedom with how to dress because quite often it’s chilly in the morning but bright and fairly warm by the afternoon so you need to be prepared with layers and different options! Here are some styles and methods you can try out this Autumn/Winter, that will hopefully make putting an outfit together a bit easier.

Wear boots for warmth AND style
Boots are an Autumn and Winter staple, often trainers and slip on shoes just don’t give you the warmth you need – and look silly with the thick socks that are an essential at this time of year! Depending on what you’re wearing on your legs there are numerous styles you can try. If you’re wearing tights and a shorter skirt or dress then thigh high boots will add warmth and style to your outfit. If you do more walking, and want the option to wear with wide legged trousers or skinny jeans tucked in then a pair of ankle height wide fit heels would work well because they’re so versatile and would suit most outfits.
Long and short scarfs
Thick scarves are perfect for keeping the winter chill, and the longer the better! You can wear wrapped around your neck and shoulders like an oversize snood, or with one end flung jauntily over your shoulder.
Layering is easy with scarves too, you can weave a light cotton scarf together with a thicken woven one for a different look. Coloured scarves are also a great way to to add some interest to a dark winter outfit, especially if your coat is dark toned.
Layer up with a Shacket
A shacket is a relatively new piece of clothing, but its perfect for this time of year. Although not as thick and warm as a coat, it is an extra layer to add when the weather is in the middle of the season and isn’t quite at full winter temperatures yet. As shacket, as the name suggests is a shirt and jacket combo, so it is a good look when looking for something more casual, but that can still be layered and keep you quite warm when the weather does drop in temperature.
Floral maxi or midi dress
Floral works well as you can still get sunny days, albeit a little cooler. Plus there are some really great autumnal coloured and muted floral prints out there. But a midi dress or a maxi dress works so well during this transitional season. You can wear it with tights and boots, or with smarter shoes making it versatile, and can layer up with cardigans when warmer or a wool coat when cooler. Add in a polo neck and you’ve got a very funky 70s-inspired autumnal look.
Cosy Knits for transitional outfits
A warm and cosy cardigan can be worn as an outer layer in warmer weather or as a mid layer when it gets really chilly. Wrap around cardigans are great for wearing under jackets and coats as you can get a better fit than chunky knits which are open or have a lot of buttons to add bulk. Roll neck jumpers are a great way to keep the chills at bay without the extra added layers of a scarf.
