I love personalised books and I think Athena likes them just as much as me! She has a new book and she calls it ‘the Athena book’. In fact we all call it the Athena book now, and I would bet money on it being on or near her pillow at any given time! Thankfully Arlo has an Arlo book too, otherwise there would be a problem when he wants to hold hers! The book is actually called ‘Princess Athena won’t go to sleep’ and tells the story of princess called Athena who, yep you guessed it… doesn’t want to go to sleep! Instead she gets to go on an exciting journey, meeting some very helpful creatures, some of which are even magical!
I won’t spoil the story but it’s really sweet and written in rhyme, something that Athena really enjoys in a story! The pictures are bright and fun and the main character of course can be designed to look like whoever the book is created for. This was really easy (and fun!) to do on the Create Me Books website. You can see a screen shot of the process below.
I chose A girl with bunches which is one of Athenas current favourite hair styles, and a purple dress. There are lots of different appearance options, from skin colour to glasses so you really can tailor the character to look just right.
The book is a soft cover design but is made from really sturdy materials, the cover feels almost plastic coated and both our books have withstood a lot of fairly rough handling from my kids (I am trying in vain to teach them to be gentle with books but it’s always good when a book can withstand being yanked about!) It’s a decent length, so is perfect for a bedtime story and of course the story itself works well at bedtime due to the sleep aspect of the story! Athena likes to point out the animals as we read through the pages, and Arlo isn’t quite at the understanding stage but he has his own ‘Prince Arlo won’t go to sleep’ book that he can play with whilst we read, meaning Athena doesn’t get annoyed at him yanking at the pages!
Create Me Books is the brainchild of Lisa Wilson, who is a pretty amazing lady. She wrote a story for her daughter when recovering from an operation, then her foster son said he’d like one too and that’s where she got the idea from! You can read the whole story here. Personalised gifts are always that bit more special and I think these would make great birthday and Christmas gifts for a special little person in your life! Lisa has also kindly offered a personalised book to one of my lovely, lucky readers! Just enter to win using the widget below.
