The bedroom can often be a hot sticky mess in the summer months, which is far from ideal when you’re trying to get a good night’s sleep, but it doesn’t have to be that way. These are lots of simple things you can do to ensure that your bedroom is cool and comfortable no matter how hot it gets outside…
Keep the curtains closed
One really simple thing you can do to keep your bedroom cool in the summer is to keep the curtains or blinds closed all day and night. This will keep the rays of the sun from getting in and heating up the room, so although you might not love the total darkness in the daytime, it will be worth it when you can be cooler and more comfortable when you go to bed at night.
Get a fan
It’s an obvious one, but getting either a floor standing fan, which you can place in the corner or a smaller bedside fan you can place on each side of the bed, is a really good way to lower the temperature when it’s hot at night. The breeze it will give off will be delightful against your skin on those hot sticky nights.
Oh, and if you have a fan, and you want it to be even more effective, before you get into bed each night, place a bowl of ice cubes right in front of the fan. That will give it an extra cool effect that you will love when it’s really hot.
Switch to natural fibres
If you don’t already have sheets that are made of natural fibres, you’re going to want to get some. Why? Because sheets made from natural fibres such as cotton, like these hotel quality bedding and towels, are not only more comfortable on the skin, but they are much more breathable too, so you are far less likely to stick to them and overheat than you would be with other sheets. Of course, if it’s really hot, you might want to forgo the sheets altogether!
Free your hot water bottle
Hot water bottles, for obvious reasons, are more commonly associated with cold winter nights than hot summer ones, but you can use them when it’s warm. Simply half fill them and freeze. Place win your bed and it will immediately start to cool things down.
Hang a wet sheet in the window
Saturate a wet sheet with water and gently wring it out so that it doesn’t leak. Extendable curtain poles will come handy here, just extend it to the same length and then hang it up in front of the bedroom window, or in fact, any window in your home where you would like it to be cooler. It might look a little odd, but it will really help to keep the room cool because any heat that does get it will, first and foremost, go to drying the sheet, so it hopefully won’t affect you.
Turn tech off
If you’re the type to leave tech plugged in in the bedroom, turn it off and prevent it from generating extra heat while you sleep.
I hope you have a really cool and comfortable summer!
