Interiors: Wooden Flooring choices

Wooden flooring has been a popular choice for home interiors for many years, I definitely prefer it after living in a house with exposed wooden floors for just over two years now.  It adds warmth, texture, and character to a room, and can be a practical choice too. But with so many different types of wooden flooring available, it can be hard to know which one to choose.  We have the original floorboards, in various states of repair – some rooms have been sanded, some have been painted but in the future there are different styles  I’d like to explore to really add some character to our home.

Parquet Flooring is a type of wooden flooring that is made up of small, interlocking pieces of wood. The pieces are arranged in a geometric pattern, creating a unique and striking look. Parquet flooring has been used for centuries and was especially popular in the 17th century. Today, parquet flooring is popular choice for those who want a traditional, elegant look. It’s also very durable and can last for many years with proper care.

Engineered Wood Flooring is a type of wooden flooring that is made up of several layers of wood. The top layer is made from solid wood, while the lower layers are made from plywood or other types of wood. This makes it more stable than solid wood flooring and less susceptible to warping and shrinking. Engineered wood flooring is also easier to install than solid wood flooring, as it can be glued or floated over a variety of subfloors.

Tongue and Groove Flooring is a type of wooden flooring that has been around for centuries. It gets its name from the way the boards are joined together – each board has a groove cut into one side and a tongue cut into the other, which allows them to interlock. Tongue and groove flooring is popular because it is easy to install and can be used in a variety of different settings. It’s also very durable and can be sanded and refinished several times over the years.

When it comes to choosing the right wooden flooring for your home, there are lots of things to consider, including the look you’re after, the durability and how easy it is to install of course! Parquet flooring can be difficult to install and may require the services of a professional. Engineered wood flooring is easier to install than solid wood flooring, but it still requires some expertise. Tongue and groove flooring is relatively easy to install and can be done by a DIY enthusiast.

In conclusion, wooden flooring is a popular and practical choice for home interiors. When choosing the right wooden flooring for your home, consider the look you want to achieve, the durability of the flooring, and the installation process. With the right choice, you can enjoy the warmth, texture, and character of wooden flooring in your home for many years to come.
