Cake Maternity Sleepwear

The moment I walk in the door these days I get out of my clothes and bra and into PJs, being this pregnant means that even though I’m wearing maternity clothes I’m just comfortable! Waistbands dig into the bump, or if they’re under the bump they put pressure on my bladder! Bra straps are like torture devices and I’m too hot for layers anyway! So when Cake Maternity got in touch to see if I wanted to try out something from their maternity and nursing range of sleepwear I leapt at the chance!

I was sent the Creme Brulee set, which consists of a long pair of PJ bottoms and a long sleeved top, with plenty of room for the bump and a clever nursing feature for when I’m breastfeeding. The first thing I noticed when I took the pyjamas out of the lovely box they came in (all the way from Australia in under a week, impressive!) was how soft they felt! And when Sam arrived home from work that night and got into bed he said exactly the same thing as he had his hand on my belly waiting for a kick or two! For a man to notice how soft a pair of pyjamas is is a pretty good indication that they really are something special!

The top has a built in band under the bust for extra support, but it’s designed not to be too tight so is perfectly comfortable to sleep in, and the gathering under the bust means the fabric flows nicely over the bump (and mine is pretty big right now!) and will be nice and loose on my C-section scar too. The cleverly designed twist detail conceals nursing clips so that you can fold down for easy breastfeeding access too, which you can see in the photo above.

The trousers are in a lovely print that matches the trim of the PJ top, and are loosely cut with an elasticated waistband with plenty of stretch in it. Currently I am wearing them ‘under bump’ but there is enough material for me to be able to wear them above my C section scar whilst I’m healing, and the addition of a drawstring will help to keep them in place.

The only con that I can see is that they are labelled as hand wash only, however realistically I know I won’t be up for hand-washing anything after a C section with two children to look after so I have washed them with my normal load on a 30 degree wash and they came out perfectly, still as soft as they were when new, though you do this at your own risk!

Along with their sleepwear selection Cake also sell nursing tops, washable breast-pads, and some lovely maternity swimwear in their Rosewater Collection including tankinis which would be great for a water birth!

I’ve also been sent a Cotton Candy Nursing bra too, which will be ready and waiting in my hospital bag along with these PJs, and I’ll do a review on that once I’ve been using it for a while!

  1. Pyjamas are definitely a pregnancy essential, and I love that these are suitable for breastfeeding in afterwards! I love the pattern of the trousers, but yes I would stick them in the machine too rather than hand wash!

  2. Finally someone has designed stylish maternity wear that looks good and not old ladyish! I love their tankinis, just took a look online! Fingers crossed i’ll have a bump to put it in soon!
